When Livingston County had the opportunity to start their park
system, they had the foresight to see that once the natural areas of
there 300-acre property were affected the changes would be
irreversible… they knew that they would have one chance “to get it
right”. Consequently, to provide a sound basis for their planning
efforts, the Park and Open Space Advisory Committee and the
Livingston County Board of Commissioners contracted a biological
survey of the plants and animals of the site to determined which areas
of the property had the highest ecological integrity and should be
protected from development during the planning process. KEA
conducted that survey and provide over a score of recommendations
with respect to park development and management. The
recommendations took into consideration potential recreational
opportunities for county residents, the natural features of the site, and
the practical aspect of limited budgets.
